When someone else accesses my credit report?

free annual credit report
Thomas V asked:

About 2 years ago my cousin tried to access my credit report because my mother feels she should have more money left than she does and they are suspecting I must have stole some money. My mom gave my cousin my social security number and when the security question asked about the mortgage I had they said none of the above since they didn’t feel I own a house and it was rejected. I met with my cousin one day talking about how my mom feels she should have more money and this is when she told me it said I own a house. I tried to access free annual credit report today and it said I already got my report in March 2009. I didn’t access my report. I feel they must be accessing my report again. I feel they have no right to access my report without my permission. My mom wanted me to send in her bills and use the money she had when money was low which it always was. This is why they get me involved with this. I don’t seem to like the fact that my mom must feel I stole money and I didn’t and I seem to let it bother me. I am not guilty. If you were me would you care that they feel I stole money and would you tell them that they should not be accessing my credit report?

You can place a security freeze on your credit records. It must be done separately with each bureau. Their websites tell you how.
