Free annual report? (e.g., annualcreditreport.com)
Monthly credit checks? (e.g., with a paid membership to freecreditreport.com)
What’s your method? what method would you NOT recommend? thanks!

Yes, use. Don’t purchase any of the offers, just view your credit report for free.
Here’s the trick. Set up some sort of automated reminder system, like an outlook calendar, to check 1 different report every 4 months. That way you see what’s going on every 4 months, you see all your reports each year, and you never have to pay for it.
annualcreditreport.com
is the only place where reports are free – others are basically scams.
You do not need to monitor your reports. All you need to know is that once a year your report is in top shape with no errors.
If your credit is ever stolen – you won’t owe a dime. Except for some postage and paper and time. If you ever lose a card you have 100% fraud protection.
