Evictions are a public record. Go to the local Clerk of the Court’s Office or Records Center and ask to see any court orders issued with you as the respondent. It may be at the State, County, or City Clerk’s Office, depending on the State. In some states, like Florida, this information is available on the Internet. You should know that some apartment managers will check your credit and will not rent to you when they see you have an unpaid debt in collections, so I’m not sure it matters if you have an eviction judgment against you.

You can go to the local court’s website in the city you lived in and be able to pull up if you had an eviction. Call the court and explain what you are trying to find and they’ll point you in the right direction where you need to look next. Those records are public records and all you really need to do is type in your social security number and if you have anything against you, it will come up. The apartment building has to file this with the courts. So if you were technically evicted, it will show up on the court records. Plus, if it shows on your credit report that you owe money to an apartment complex, the new landlord is going to know wha that means. Hope this helps!

An eviction is not going to show on your credit report, so don’t bother going there. I believe that some landlords have access to and post information about renters in a database that other landlords can access, but I am not certain on that.

Edit: Forgot about checking with the courts. The previous answerers make a good point.
