I want to get my free annual credit report but I don’t want it to affect my credit score. I heard that any credit report inquiry can lower your credit score.

    Yes, it will negatively affect your own credit score. Called a beacon count.

    Try your own branch or bank. Might be safer. But most people will likely go through Equifax anyways. Just maintain good credit and pay your credit cards and bills in a timely manner.
