Why cant I get a free credit report?
Posted on Dec 17, 2008 with Comments 5
I went to annual credit report and entered in my information it said with two creditors that… It could not give the information online for many reasons a few it listed was a fraud alert (which i didnt not place on it) military duty freeze ( i am not military) or information did not match up correctly.
Could it be that its because I have 0 credit… or should have no credit. I havent worked in 8 years and never had a credit loan ect. One creditor though said I MAY have a mortagage in my name from Oct. of 2006 but it randomly said this when I didn not enter my middle inital in.
I called to request a report be sent to me for free but if it said online it couldnt send this information because things may not have matched up does this mean that I wont be able to have one mailed to me either?? And is there a way to call the credit agencies and talk to an actual person instead of a computer?
edit- Im assuming it may be someone with the same name. It could be someone with the same name who has credit and since I dont have any its trying to give me theirs.
equifax is the one that said there May be something… transunion and experian both said that invalid info.. or mismatched info ect.

Either ID fraud…or there searching someone else’s records that has the same name.
there’s three credit reports. Most free things only offer the experian credit report for free.
- Equifax 800-525-6285
- Experian 888-EXPERIAN (or 888-397-3742)
- TransUnion 800-680-7289
You need to call them first thing in the morning and see what is happening on your credit report. Something sounds fishy.
Calling them directly may not get you a free report. If you have to pay, just order one and see what it says. You could do that online and get it immediately.
If you find you’re a victim of ID Fraud, the FTC has a great pdf file to help you:
You can get a free annual credit report from all three of the credit agencies once per 12 month period. I suggest you get one from each of them right away because sometimes the info on them can be different.
The annualcreditreport.com site lists this number and info below you can call to order your free reports over the phone. You could try this first and see if you can get them ordered. I’m not sure from your question if you actually did call this number or not.
go directly to the web site
transunion, experian, or equifax
pull it, check it out, and make corrections with the bureaus if necessary. It;s a tidieous process hang tight
Raven…
You SHOULD have credit.
I’ve personally “owed” Discover card in excess of $10,000 since 2001, and I have credit.
There are firms such as Orchard Bank that will give you an easy $300.00 limit “Platinum” card, but with HIGH interest rates.
However… Once you have “credit” thru one of these “High-$” firms, you will be able to be beginning to “restore” your credit, as such!
At any rate, after 7 years, your “bad” credit is automatically “cleared”, and you can become “eligible” for up to $25,000 worth of credit, as I was!
