I had 2 unauthorized charges to my credit card, but the card was still in my possession. How is that possible?

free annual credit report
Someone asked:

The 2 charges was from a cable company and an airline; each was more then $200. Each happened about within a week of each other.

That cable company doesn’t even have service in where I live. This leads me to believe that my CC number wasn’t stolen locally while I was out and about. What service costs $200 from a cable company? Called the cable company and opened a complaint ticket.

The airline charge is a little scary because the airline rep said my physical address was inputted, she could not give anymore info other then the last name used on the ticket, suffice to say I never heard of the name before. Then she said it will be handled by their fraud department and would not give me any more info. How can I research this more? I would really like the full info like what name was booked and flight info. Also, should I be worried that some crook knows my address?

So even though I had the card in my possession the whole time, I get these 2 fraud charges. So I had to file fraud to those 2 transactions, then cancel the card and order a new one. I also made sure all my bills are paperless, then got a free annual credit report. No new questionable accounts have been opened, happy to report.

Now I am a little gun shy of using the new card. Because I did use it to pay a few of my various bills automatically, and shop online at times (secure reputable sites to me). And never had problems until those 2 fraud charges.

So any suggestions how this happened?
Frank - already did all that, thanks
Stan - thanks, will call 1 of the 3. But the cable company doesn’t service my area, so my number didn’t seem to be stolen locally
