So who has done this? I want to spread out my free 3 reports over a yr, 1 every 4 months. I want to know what your advice is on this and how accurate it is? Also if i pay down some cards now (this month), when will it show on my report?

I have done annualcreditreport.com, and there are different selections. The difference is that you get one report free from experian I believe. This report will not show your score. However, you can choose to pay for a report, and you can get a tri-merge, which is a credit report from experiance, transunion and equifax.

I wouldn’t necessarily go hog wild and do 1 report every 4 months. 1. Your score isn’t going to shoot up that quickly. 2. It doesn’t matter what score you see, you can’t lend yourself any monies.

As for paying down some cards this month. Yes, if your balance is above 30% of the available limit, then it does have a negative impact on your score. So paying them down would be good. Now when do the creditors report? It varies. Some report on the 10th, others the 20th and so on. Heck, some creditors don’t report each and every month.

I would visit, they have a pdf file that is free of charge. It explains the fico scoring system, and should give you enough information to make you dangerous. :P
Otherwise, I would just get the single credit report no score. And review it to see how accurate it is. If something seems out of place, you can dispute it.

Let me know how it turns out, and I hope I answered your questions.
