Check credit for free?

My husband and I applied to rent a home and the landlord (a single person, not a rental agency) said she would be checking credit and refrences. However, she didn’t ask for any fee to run our credit report. Normally, I’ve been charged up to $50 for my husband and I to run our credit when renting property. How can she get our credit report for free? Also, I’ve already gotten our credit reports from the free annual credit report website, so I don’t think that would work … ideas?

She may know someone in the mortgage business that can pull it. She may also have her own business account with a company that pulls credit reports. If she owns many houses or apartments, she would most likely have that type of service.

She’s not getting it for free. She is paying for it and hoping you’ll have good enough credit to rent the place. Then, the $40 she spent on the credit report will be a small price when compared to a 1 yr lease.
I always charge an application fee b/c there are too many people out there with bad credit, that just want to lie and waste my time checking their credit.
I’ve had people tell me they had good credit and never been evicted. Then, I find out when I check, that they have credit scores below 500 and have been evicted 3 times!
She must feel very confident about your credit & no worries. They can recoupe that with move in fees.
